Earthquake presents one of the strongest and widespread natural disasters. Its effects can be disastrous and therefore a large number of people are involved in different activities with the aim to prevent or reduce the consequences of earthquake events. Reports after earthquakes show that they have caused huge loss of life and economic activity. This is even more upsetting since the number of earthquakes causing fatalities is increasing almost each decade. In line with the increasing casualties are also the costs related to earthquakes that represent more than the 1/3 of the costs from all the natural disasters. Due to these facts, this research field has huge potential for research work with the focus on practical application. Institute members are working on this topic by applying experimental tests as well as numerical simulations with the aim to get and present the results addressing both students and practicing engineers, offering them an overview of the theoretical basics of the earthquake engineering with the relevant results from the systematic studies of earthquake engineering problems.
